About Calvary Christian Church
Our God has a heart for people and so do we.
The church is God’s called out covenant people, living under the Lordship of Christ, moving to fulfil His great commission and serving each other, to demonstrate the great commandment.
Calvary Christian Centre encompasses all the activities of the group of believers known as Calvary Christian Church, a local expression of the world wide church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
CHURCH
The church meets in a building in the suburb of Alan Manor, in the South of Johannesburg, South Africa. Relationally, however, we interact on a much broader scale.
PURPOSE
We believe the Lord is a purposeful God. He does not work by accident – but intentionally. We need to serve the purpose for which He came and our purpose statement reflects this:
“The purpose of Calvary Christian Church is to glorify and love our God,
To go and gather the lost,
Ensuring that all His people are grafted into His body,
Loving and growing them into His service.”
HISTORY
The church began in 1986. Calvary stood as a church which was totally interracial and multiracial during troubled times in our country and still today, expresses the kingdom through its diverse membership.
The church met in a garage, later moved to a large hall and then occupied buildings on a pleasure resort. In 1994, the Lord miraculously led us to the property we now own. It certainly was a year of new beginnings.
It has not always been an easy road. Our hearts have been saddened by people who left or moved on or who have passed on. But our testimony remains that the Lord has been good to us. We are honoured to serve Him.
