Welcome Hanna Klaesson Hjelt

Calvary Christian College would like to extend a warm welcome to Hanna Klaesson Hjelt,  a 16 year old girl from Stockholm, Sweden.

Hanna was selected as an exchange student through AFS (American Field Service) programme which is a volunteer based cultural exchange organisation.  The Klaesson Hjelt family are very familiar with the AFS programme as her father, brother and sister have been part of the programme before. Hanna’s personal goal for this adventure is to gain life experience, learn a new culture, meet new people, make new friends and adapt to a new family with a different perspective on things.  Hanna is aware that she faces many different challenges from those in Sweden and knows she must be prepared to meet these challenges and develop new and other facets of herself.

While in South Africa, Hanna lives with the Moloi family  from Lenasia.

Calvary Christian College would like to wish Hanna everything of the very best for the year ahead.

2016 High School Staff

A First for Us: Bursaries

A First for Us: Bursaries

At this year’s graduation, Calvary Christian College was, for the first time in the history of its high school, able to award bursaries to deserving learners.

Today, a laurel wreath surrounds our school badge, but this was not always so. The laurel wreath was  added to the badge when we celebrated our 25 anniversary in 2011. The idea was to follow the theme of laurel wreaths into the bursary scheme. Thus, bursaries given by companies or individuals, fall into the category of the Golden Laurel Wreath Bursaries and those awarded by Calvary Christian College are known as the Silver Laurel Wreath Bursaries.

GOLDEN LAUREL WREATH BURSARIES

Mr Vincent Raseroka, the chairman of the board of Mineral-Loy, handed over the three trophies to the winners of Mineral-Loy bursaries for 2016, at the high school graduation ceremony of the high school.

Mr Raseroka, in his address said that what he had seen at the graduation had inspired him with hope in the future of South Africa. His address challenged the learners on various fronts to carry their values with them into their lives: respect, work hard, and don’t take no for an answer, stand up.

In Grade 10, the three recipients of the award will each receive R 15 000 towards their fees.  In grade 11 the top two out of the three, will each receive R 20 000 and in grade 12 only one learner will receive a full bursary of R 40 000. The three learner are Shamika Pienaar, Biotumelo Moloi and Kabelo Setlodi.

This means that over the next three years Mineral-Loy is committing R 120 000 to learners who are studying Core Maths and Physical Science.

We thank the Board of Mineral-Loy, Mr Vincent Raseroka (Chairman and shareholder), Mr Rob Duff (Shareholder) and Mr Theo van Breda (Shareholder) for this demonstration of faith in the learners of Calvary Christian College.

SILVER LARUEL WREATH BURARIES

These bursaries are awarded to learners who may not be the top students academically in their grades but who nevertheless perform well academically but contribute to the school through their involvement in sport and culturals.

These bursaries are worth R 10 000 each and must be applied for annually.

The recipients of the bursaries for 2016 are Shudu Nethononda, Khanyesile  Maeta and Moecia Reyneck.
